Our District, Our Communities.
  • Jobs - As I reach out to the district, ask questions and listen, the number one concern is JOBS. But not just any jobs. Good, stable jobs that provide a living wage. I encourage you to help me in the fight for a minimum wage that provides a living wage. I stand strong in my support of union labor, support the expansion of labor unions and oppose any restrictions on the constitutional right to bargain collectively, especially so-called ‘right-to-work’ laws.
  • Taxes - I believe a progressive tax structure is the answer to funding issues. Taxes need to be lower for people who make less money and progressively higher for those in higher income brackets.
  • Education - Our rural schools are struggling. Schools must have the support necessary both to provide a quality education to our children and to attract talented educators. I will vote to increase education funding and sponsor legislation to engage and retain great teachers. We have some of the finest teachers, professors and vocational instructors here in Illinois and we must reinvest in them to carry our state forward in the 21st century.
  • Community Revitalization - I understand the importance of businesses in our communities. Underutilized infrastructure and empty buildings across our district need to be re-purposed to stimulate economic growth and stability. I believe small businesses are the backbone of a thriving, healthy community. I will lead the way in making Illinois a business-friendly environment. I will work to support legislation that makes running a business in Illinois affordable and appealing and to reward businesses that create employment in our communities.
  • Clean Air, Clean Water, Conservation - taking care of our natural resources has never been more important. As someone who loves the outdoors. I am saddened by the lack of attention and appreciation our parks are given. Illinois has some of the best farmland in the world. We need to be able to trust that our environment is clean and safe. Our soils, air, and waters must be protected for future generations!
  • Women and Equal Pay - Women, on average, earn 77 cents on the dollar compared to men in the same job here in the 45th District. We need to fight for equal pay.
  • Public Employees - Illinois can boast of highly-trained, dedicated, and professional public servants providing indispensable services at the state and local levels. Republican leaders systematically underfund indispensable agencies, deprecate their value and minimize their efforts, seeking to break their employee’s unions. We must stop their pervasive abuse of our government, and begin treating our employees with the respect they deserve. We must stand on the side of proper funding, enabling them to properly do their jobs for all of us.

  • People with Disabilities - People who are born with, or acquire a disability, are valuable contributors to our communities and our lives. They deserve equal opportunities to learn, work, live, and play.
  • Elected officials - Elected officials must work together with the people of Illinois to create change and a better deal for our communities. Illinois needs a balanced budget every single year.
Together, we can get Illinois on track and in the black!
